The mail_no field is the unique family ID. It is five digits. Family pictures are named with the mail_no field, left padded with zeros up to five digits (like 00123) and the last two digits of the file name represent 00 for family or 01, 02, 03 for individuals in the family, using their directory sequence (pers_no in ME.dbf), which is also left padded with leading zero.
0012300 is the family picture
0012303 is the profile picture of person #3

Sounds like a re-purpose of an existing data item no longer needed. I've done that in the past

However, does the system replace the name of the original picture file, or is there another cross-reference?

PowerChurch imports a new copy of the picture named as previously mentioned, resizes it to 800x600, and stores it inside the pictures folder inside the data folder in the PowerChurch Plus program directory.
