Here's a basic question for anyone who cares to chime in.

What Personal Profile do you assign the children / youth in your congregation?

At present, we have a handful of Personal Profiles for our adult members, but the children have no personal profile values. This fouled up our secretary when she tried printing the annual directory - she neglected to select the "<None>" choice in the list of personal profiles to include.

I've considered creating a "Youth" value and assigning it to all the kids; just haven't gotten around to it yet.

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Do you mean Personal *Status*? If so, bear in mind that those codes are all mutually exclusive. Generally, Personal Status shows the member status of an individual. So, if you have a status of "Member" and a status of "Youth" what do you choose when you have a youth who is a member? What do you do when you have a youth who isn't a member? There's actually a field in the personal profile to specify "Adult Y/N." That's probably a better place to track that. Then, you'll want to make sure everyone has an appropriate Personal Status, because that field is used in lots of places.

We use the status of Family Group Member for children and spouses who are not members, along with the Adult y/n as Zaphod said. Then when they become members, we change the status.

We use
Member >= 16 and
Member < 16

We also use "Attender-Minor" for children whose parents do not attend.

Yes, I meant to say "Personal Status". Thanks for the all the suggestions.

Turns out the policy isn't all that difficult for us. When the kids are old enough (junior or senior in high school, I believe), they can become Associate Members - there is a personal status code I need to create, though we typically have only a very few of them at any one time.

Until that age, they're a distinct category - "Youth" or whatever.
