I created church directory using Family Mail List / Church Directory.
How can I get a count of families without physically counting them?
And
I assume the church directory is being generated from the MA table- correct?
I tried classic, detailed and column views however none show a total count.

None of the directories will show a total count, as its a directory; its meant to be given out to the members. What you want to use is the Personal Profile report Profiles Count by Status Code, this report will list the total count of members if the database is properly updated.
