bar code - id cards?
Has anyone made id cards with bar codes? This may be unusual for a church, but have an application for a ministry.
Re: bar code - id cards?
There was a simliar question about Bar Codes and a directory. The only way this could be accomplished is to export an attendance roster to a Word or Excel file, then cut and paste to make the ID cards.homejax wrote:Has anyone made id cards with bar codes? Cool ... I saw the name badge report, but missed the bar code label. Which then begs the question ... how about an option to print the bar code on the name tag in much the same way you can optionally add the bar code to an attendance roster.Jeff wrote:There is a new option in the attendance register form in version 10 that will print the name and barcode on a mailing label that you can then stick on the back of an ID card or name badge. Also look in Activity & Skills for a new name badge report.
I'm assuming that the name tag is setup to use a specific Avery form, in which case the dimensions are known, and the bar code could be located in the bottom inch of the tag, or something like that.

WE do our newletter in publisher with an outside cover and have been using labels which are time consuming and expensive. I now do a mail merge to a text box from the mail merge in PCP, run the cover page through the printer to print the name and address, etc. Would like to also include the barcode in the mail merge. WE do this also to address envelopes so having the barcode would be wonderful to have in the mail merge file. Is there a way to do this.
Um ... I don't think we're on the same page here. If you're talking postal barcodes, then we're defintely not, as the barcode we're talking about is used to enter attendence into Powerchurch.haven wrote:WE do our newletter in publisher with an outside cover and have been using labels which are time consuming and expensive. barcodes (postal)
Haven, since you brought up this topic, and since PowerChurch doesn't have the capability to do postal bar codes for mailing, I'd like to make a recommendation to assist in your ministry. We have found a program called Postage$aver that adds barcodes to mailings, as well as doing the presorts necessary. It integrates beautifully with PowerChurch.
We use the CASS certification available from PowerChurch to add the correct 9-digit ZIP codes to our database. (In between CASS processing intervals, we look these up on the USPS web site.) We use PowerChurch to create the mail merge file as usual, then run it through Postage$aver before merging it into Publisher. The combination of PowerChurch and Postage$aver is VERY cost-effective!! You can find it at www.savepostage.com.

Re: barcodes (postal)
Um ... Powerchurch does have the capability to create postal bar codes, however, not on the standard Avery 5160 30-label sheets. It can print on the 20-label (5161) and 14-label sheets. More info is available in the manual, or by pressing the F1 button when on the mailing label options dialog window.jdyer99 wrote:Haven, since you brought up this topic, and since PowerChurch doesn't have the capability to do postal bar codes for mailing, I'd like to make a recommendation to assist in your ministry. Neil is right PowerChurch will print the barcodes. The one thing that PosageSaver does that PowerChurch does not is presort your mailing for you. It will tell you which pieces to put in what trays, calculate the postage amount and should print the postage statements too. Not bad for the $50 price. I do know of some other churches using it also.
