Events and Activities

Post by pbumc »

Hi,

Just want to make sure I'm clear on the best way to do this.

Our church frequently has one-time events that are open to the whole church. Examples are a 60th Anniversary Celebration, a church picnic, or a field trip to see the Dead Sea Scrolls. Typically a sign-up sheet is circulated, or people drop a sign-up in the offering plate.

What is the best way to to track who has signed up, and send them reminders as the event approaches? As far as I can see, the events module does not track registration. So I need to set up a separate Activity/Skill for each event, then Maintain List of Attenders?

Anyone have a favorite method for organizing these one-time activities in the Activities and Skills list? I'm thinking that we might want to be able to go back a couple years so we can invite people to similar events in the future. But keeping every event forever would become unwieldy. Maybe something like this?

7000 One-Time Events
7100 One-Time Events: 2006
7101 2006 Picnic
7101 2006 Christmas Dinner
7200 One-Time Events: 2007
7201 2007 60th Anniversary
7202 2007 Dead Sea Scrolls

Thanks for your thoughts,

Mark

There was a thread on the Event's forum about this sort of thing. You can add people to the event notification list from the database, and then manually send out emails as reminders. Here's that thread:

Hope this helps.
