Restricting access to envelope numbers

Post by tborgal »

We are setting up our youth Pastors to have access to the membership list on PP+ through our network. However I found that giving them access to Personal Profiles allows them to change the envelope number. This would probably not happen intentionally, but could happen by accident. I don't think this should be allowed if they do not have access to the Contribution module. Is there any way to prevent this currently, short of denying access to the Personal Profiles?

They should not be able to change anything if they don't have add/change permissions. Are they going to be adding data ?? If not, just give them ACCESS permission.

However, if they need to do updates, then you'll have to just trust them to heed the error message that comes up if they accidentally change the number. It all boils down to training !

They are going to be able to add/change data, and I tested this and did not get any error message. As I said in my original post, if you don't have permission to access contributions you should not be able to change this. Maybe this could be something to consider in the next version.

The error message would occur if the number was changed to one that was already in use.

FWIW ... I would not want this type of action changed as some churches assign envelope numbers by secretaries or volunteers even though they do not have access to the contributions module.

As I mentioned previously, training is a big factor in giving access to people who can update data. I have no qualms with granting view access to staff, however, I do have a problem with granting change access to everyone on staff.

That said, perhaps a System Setup option for this could be considered.

The two pastors are youth pastors and have been keeping their own name and address lists for some time now. They have found it difficult to keep them up to date and have been meeting quarterly to compare lists. We are trying to consolidate these lists into one place and felt this was the best place to do it. I agree that training is the key, but maybe a review of the best way to handle this consolidation is in order before we get started with this. I just have one pastor networked so far and that was when I realized the envelope number issue existed. Thanks for the advise.
