Feedback needed: Family E-mail

Post by Zorak »

We have received a whole truck load of requests for the addition of a "family" level e-mail address.

We don't really get it. Maybe we are all just techie people that have multiple e-mail addresses per person, rather than multiple people sharing one e-mail address.

We are considering adding this in version 11, because it is so frequently requested, but honestly we don't know why you all want it so badly, or what you would expect it to do if we added it...

Be as specific as you care to.

Thanks!

My sentiments exactly!

I think it is safe to assume from the underwhelming response that this feeler got that this is not exactly a "hot-button" feature you are all looking for.

Our church could use the "One e-mail per family" option. We are going to electronic notification as much as possible and would like to limit e-mails going to each family.

I'd rather see (if there's room) a checkbox on the personal profiles page, sorta like the current email contribution statement checkbox that you can use for Family Group Primary Email.

Much easier to use, to update existing records, to use as a filter, etc.

 OMIGOSH! Please, please, please add this feature! Currently I'm working on attempting to print a pictorial directory of families with email addresses and it's not easily possible. The addition of a 'family email' or a 'primary family email' would solve the problem in a snap.

Any possible way to connect an email to the 'Family Mailing' screen would make our jobs MUCH easier. I was just thinking 15 minutes ago how amazing this feature would be.

Quick question, which Pictorial Directory report are you using, the one on the Family mailing list, or the Personal Profiles one ??

The family mailing list one. We already have all the pictures of families and I didn't see a way of combining the personal profiles into one directory entry.

Is there another way I should be doing it?

Well, I take it that you only have pictures of the family, not individual members. So there's not much you can do in this case, unfortunately.

All you can do for now is attach a Email Directory list from the Personal Profiles to the back of the directory. Hopefully, by the next version the developers will come up with a way to use a personal profile email entry as a 'family' email.

As I mentioned in the wish list, I'd like to see a checkbox on the personal profile that can be used so that you don't have to enter data in two places.

Just a tease for version 11. Version 11 will add an option to include the family picture on all of the regular church directory formats.

Hmmm ... to quote a song from Grease:

Maybe they are empty nesters or single couples and need only one email address.

FWIW ... v11 will have a location to enter a main email address on the Mailing List Profile, along with the current emails on the Personal Profiles.

I have worked around the redundant shared family email listing by deleting the information on the children's profiles. I figure what a child's email address is should be on a "need to know" basis.
