Date for activity codes

Post by Karen Harris »

When we enter an activity code for someone, a "date joined" is automatically entered for that activity. However, the "date joined" does not print on the activity report. For example, if I print an activity report for people indicating they are willing to help with transportation, there is no way to know if the person signed up in 2009 or if they did it in 2003. Maybe they are no longer able to drive. Any ideas how to tackle this problem?

Well, you could use the Years Experience or Skill Level data item to track that. You could set someone who drives to a Skill level of 9, or Years Experience of 10 years. However, once you find out that they no longer drive, you could change the Skill or Years to zero.

A better idea would be to use the Role data item, to set it to Driver if they could drive, change it to Helper if they no longer drive and they assist with the activity.

In our church we hand out a new Skills Bank/Activities form every other year. I delete all the skills codes from
1 to 200. We then rekey the codes in. That way we have current, new information about each member's gifts which we can use for another 2 years. The codes for the Sunday school class levels and other organizations stay current and are never deleted. As we get new members they go to a 'New members' class and they get the Skill Bank form at that time. Those are then keyed in.
It works for us.

John,

We will be starting to use the skills/activities modules this coming year. I’ve been the one selected to develop this process for our church. I’m attempting to create a form that will allow us to gather this info from your members. Would you mind sharing a copy of the form you use and the codes if on a different form? This may give me a better idea on what I need to do. Thanks in advance for any help you may give.
