PowerChurch Online Server Updates

Post by Zaphod »

We've just made some major upgrades to the software which publishes PowerChurch Online. This is something we've wanted to do for a long time, as it fixes a number of issues we've had over the years. A lot of it is backend stuff you may not notice, but you should notice a few things. The new servers are named differently. Instead of "pc-online-xx" the new servers are "pc-apps-xx." There are also more of them to help distribute load. You will now have the option to save your username and password for your initial pcu login. Also, you should notice some graphical improvements overall.

One thing the new servers won't do is automatically update your client. There is an updated Windows client install available here: https://www.mypowerchurch.com. That new client has been available for a couple of months, so if you've recently downloaded it, you're probably fine. It doesn't hurt to reinstall though. We've been using the updated Mac client for quite a while now, so you shouldn't need to update that.

The intent is that we solve more problems than we cause with this update, but if you do have trouble, please email us at support@powerchurch.com.

One problem so far - a new setting that was supposed to limit sessions per server was actually limiting sessions overall, so once we hit that threshold, folks were getting a "too many connections" message. That's been resolved. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Is there a way to change the view to larger fonts? When I logged in today, all of the fonts are very tiny and hard to read.

By default, the new client and server should be DPI-aware. That means it if you have your display scaling in Windows set to something other than 100%, the PowerChurch Online window should recognize that and resize itself accordingly. The old client required a special command in the shortcut to enable that, and it could be causing a conflict. Try deleting your existing desktop shortcut, then reinstall the client software from our website at https://www.mypowerchurch.com. That should create a new desktop "PowerChurch Online" icon with new defaults.

I am still getting the "too many connections" alert and then the connection drops. It looks like it shows as resolved below, I am still not able to hold a connection very long. Is this an ongoing issue today? I have restarted my computer whenever this occurs, seems to be the only way to get the connection back.

We did have a weird problem right at noon that went away. We're trying to figure out what happened. We've got hundreds of active sessions going right now and many have been active for hours. We're sorry for the inconvenience, and we're working to smooth this transition on our end as best we can.

To whom this may concern:

I hope you are doing well.

Can the posting be changed to Fund Accounting as a separate post? Since I file the documents alphabetically, I post each posting separately. This way, the posting report can be stapled to each document for audit purposes.

For example, post funds separately, then staple the funding posting report to the matching document, and file that document alphabetically in a folder.

Another suggestion is to enable the posting dialog box to offer the option to post more items. Currently, I open the dialog box “select transaction to post,” then post one item, and repeat the process of going to funds to post the transaction. Add a button to "Post another report."

If you would like images of the examples, please let me know, and I will email them to PowerChurch.

Thank you

This is more a general Accounting question, as it applies to either the desktop or online versions.

That said, the system currently gives you the option to select what you want to post, so I'm not sure what you're getting at.

Could you explain why the current selection process doesn't work for you.

After removing and reinstalling my PowerChurch program as directed, I was able to fix the issue of the tiny text/display making it hard to see well enough to work. Today, however, I have the opposite issue: the text/display is blown up so big, it doesn't fully fit on the screen, and I can't maneuver to the bottom section of the screen to click "Save", for example. Is there a fix for this yet?

After the update I can no longer resize my viewing window or automatically make it fit the screen. There are glitches with the exit and resize buttons disappearing and the window going across my multiple screens rather than resizing to the one I placed it in. The initial size is adequate but I really appreciated being able to use my 27" screen :(

We had to emergency roll back to the old servers yesterday, so that's why. Those new defaults are meant to work best with these new servers. Sorry about that. After some changes, we're back with the new ones today.

I've got my monitors turned sideways, so I see it open like that occasionally as well (with the exit and resize buttons off the monitor). Double-clicking on the title bar in PowerChurch will maximize it, and I think that should act the way you want.

If you're still having trouble, make sure you're using the latest version of the client. The defaults we have set in that are meant to improve some of these things. Download the latest one here: https://www.mypowerchurch.com and install it. After installation, if your desktop icon looks like a blank piece of paper rather than the expected green globe icon, run the downloaded installer again. That's a weird installer glitch that didn't show up in our testing, but we'll be fixing that soon.
