We want to do a "Restart Accounting" for our church so we can establish a more suitable Chart of Accounts. The previous Chart of Accounts is just not meeting our needs.
But when we do the Restart, our new Chart of Accounts will have a new account numbering system that will not match up to or connect to our old Contribution Funds list. We need to update our Contribution Funds list, also.
QUESTION: Is this possible, or a good way to update our Accounting records, while retaining our old Membership Module data ? :
1.) Make a backup file of all old data as of December 2014
2.) Restart Accounting (Fund Accounting, Payroll, A/P, etc. modules) in the new 2015 file,
3.) Delete the old Contribution data in the new 2015 file,
4.) Go back through the Contribution Module setup (so we can update, simplify, improve the Contribution Funds list, making the necessary account connections with the new Chart of Accounts),
5.) Retain the previous Membership Module data (with its specifications of Members' contribution Envelope numbers)...
Is it possible to do a Restart this way ? I was concerned about losing the Membership Module data in this type of a Restart.
Thank you for your help.

A restart of Accounting has no effect on either Membership or Contributions data. The only issue is after you finish the Accounting restart, you'll have to go into the Maintain Contribution Funds in the Contributions module, and adjust each INCOME account listed under each Contribution Fund.ReJoiCe wrote:We want to do a "Restart Accounting" for our church so we can establish a more suitable Chart of Accounts. Re: Restart Accounting & Contribs while Retaining Membership
Actually, this will be addressed in the Contributions Income section of the Accounting Setup Assistant. It lists each of your existing funds and asks if they are unrestricted, temporarily restricted, or permanently restricted. Label them properly in that step and the income, release, and equity accounts will be set up and assigned to the Contribution Funds for you.NeilZ wrote:The only issue is after you finish the Accounting restart, you'll have to go into the Maintain Contribution Funds in the Contributions module, and adjust each INCOME account listed under each Contribution Fund.
