Automatic Backups

Has anyone come up with a solution to running daily backups with PowerChurch Online? It seems like the only way to do this is to run a manual backup at the end of the day and then copy it to an onsite and offsite location. [*]This is not a totally satisfactory solution. My understanding is that the PowerChurch data center does disaster recovery backups, but that these backups are not available to PowerChurch users.

AFAIK .. there is no way to automate user backups of Powerchurch Online.

I wonder if it's worth asking PowerChurch development to consider addressing. It really isn't a good solution to rely on someone remembering to run a backup before they go home.

The problem is where would it go? I'm fairly sure that when you log into the server, what you're doing is firing up an instance of Powerchurch which is then setup to point to where your database is, and it then checks to see what the terminal sees as local drives, and sets them up for you so you can then use them to save files.

When you log off, there is no more instance, no local drive on the server, and there's no program running.

Then there are any security issues for saving the database files, you wouldn't want to keep them on the same server, and then you'd have to be able to provide access to another server for storage which would then allow downloads.

I suspect there's much more than I listed here, but I'd just make it a point that the last thing done daily, is run a Powerchurch backup. Download it, and then copy it to Dropbox, which is what I do.
