Check-in randomly doesn't print tags

Post by denniston »

We are running Check In on 5 kiosks, twice a week. It seems every week at least once, one of the computers will not print tags for a particular family. The family gets checked in, but no tags print. The system works fine for the next family.

This poses several problems. First the family does not know what to do when their tags don't print. Secondly, since we cannot reprint parent tags we have to print one of the child tags twice. Finally, it is very frustrating to have this random glitch, and causes our members to loose confidence in our technology which some are already skeptical of anyway.

Any ideas of what would cause this? When it happens it's not because there is no labels. A print job does not even appear in the print queue.

We have that same problem! For us, it seems to happen more towards the end of our busy time. Might just be a coincidence. Completely random so I've not been able to see any pattern/reason.

Are you running these clients over a wireless connection ?? If so, how good is the signal at the client?

Yes these are over a wireless client. The connection seems to be quite good. It seems odd to me that the wireless connection would be an issue, but then I don't know how it all works. Ideally in an update the programmers would add a check to make sure a print job was sent to the printer after every check in. Because when ever the problem occurs we can jump right into the class list and "reprint" the child's tag (we print it twice, since there's no function to reprint a parent tag).

We have been having the same issue. And I agree, it is very annoying. Please at least add the option to reprint a parent tag.

Is there a print queue that you can look at to see if the print job actually went to print queue?

We have been having this issue for a while. We have 10 check in stations. It also does not appear to matter if check in is operating over a wireless connection (5 stations) or a Lanline (5 stations). This issue keeps frustrating our families that are checking in as well as our Check In Volunteer team.

At that point, I'd try a fresh install of both the server and the clients. No clue what would cause that, but when in doubt "Have you tried turning it off and on again?"

I apologize that we never responded in this thread.

With this type of problem, our developers will need to review the log files from the PowerChurch Check In server & kiosk. If you are desktop PowerChurch Plus users, you will need to create a new folder named "LOGS" (not case-sensitive) in both the server and kiosk program directories. PowerChurch Online users obviously wouldn't need to worry about the server, as we already have that one set up and logging.

Kiosk program directory: C:\PowerChurch\Checkin11\LOGS\

Server program directory: C:\PowerChurch\PCServer11\LOGS\

After a week or two (however long it takes for you to experience the problem again), gather up all of the log files from those new folders you created and send them to support@powerchurch.com as a file attachment. If you have a lot of files to send, you may have an easier time zipping them all up into one before sending. Please include your Registration Number in the e-mail and a brief description of the problem you are having, or a link back to this post.
