Can I transfer this way?

Post by DeeMunk »

I know that technically, we should transfer funds using the 9000 number (using version 9).
My Pastor would like me to transfer funds out of our Missions fund (02) to some of our other funds such as Women's Ministries (05) and our Christian Education (04) funds.
We have, in our Missions Fund, a line item designated to "local missions" and it is to be used for any missions outreaches we have, regardless if they are foreign, home missions or missions directly by our church to those in our church.
Is there an alternate way to transfer funds so that it is coming out of that line item rather than the whole missions fund?
Thank you.

I assume that the line item "local missions" is an income account. While not proper accounting (because it "hides" the transfer) it is possible to do a transfer directly against this account to another fund. Here's an example accounting entry to do this:

Debit Fund 02 "Local Missions" income
Cedit Fund 02 checking account
Debit Fund 05 checking account
Credit Fund 05 Transfer from "Local Missions"
