Closing a month

Post by FaithSpicer »

New to Power Church. The person who did this before me told me I needed to close a month before I could enter anything in another month, or all of my reports would be incorrect. She said that while you can have several months open, all of the data will be included in your reports and they won't balance for any previous month. The church program I previously used allowed you to select dates for reports and would only include data from those dates. If I leave a month open, will that information be included on my balance sheet and other reports, or does a month have to be closed for that to happen.

Closing the month does not actually do anything other than keeping new transactions from being posted to it.

When you post a transaction, you can, at that point run a report for that month and get accurate figures. You can then post more transactions, run more reports, etc. There is no relation between closing the month and having accurate account balances.

When you run Accounting reports, such as the Balance Sheet, Trial Balance, Income & Expense Statement, PowerChurch Plus generates month end balances for whichever month you choose, based on the transactions that have been posted up to the moment that you run the report.

So if I simply change the working month to the one I'm working on, everything should be fine and I can leave a month open until I'm certain I have no more transactions for that month. Is this correct?
Thanks!

Not sure of the version you're running, but I believe in version 10.4, you can keep up to 18 consecutive months open at one time!!
