POWERCHURCH VERSION 10.4

Post by oztheguitarman »

25th June 2008

Hello everyone,

Our church is currently using Powerchurch Version 9 and we have recently purchase Powerchurch Version 10.4.

Please advise if the following process to use version 10.4 is correct:

a) I will load the new version of Powerchurch 10.4.

b) I will do a backup disk of all files from the previous version of powerchurch 9

c) Using Powerchurch Version 10.4 I will load the backup disk files from
version 9

By carrying out above 3 steps I hope all the date from Powerchurch version 9 can be retrieved with Powerchurch Version 10.4

If I missed any steps or you have any other suggestions please let me
know.

Thanks for your help and advice in this matter.

Regards

As was mentioned in the thread listed above, you can't restore a backup from version 9 to a version 10 box.

The steps to I do when I install a new version is as follows:

1. Do a backup of the current version database. Store this locally and offsite.
2. Install Powerchurch Version 10. I'm fairly sure that the installation program will recommend installing into a directory called PCPLUS10. Take that recommendation, in this way you will still be able to have access to version 9 if necessary.
3. The install program will search the machine for any previous version databases and offer to upgrade that database to version 10.
4. Once the install program finishes, you will have upgraded. Now is the time to do the following if you network your database.
5. Share the new PCPLUS10 directory on the network with full permissions to all.
6. Remove the share of the PCPLUS9 directory from the network so no one will access the old data and inadvertantly update the old database.
7. Go to all machines and access the newly shared PCPLUS10 directory, and MAP that directory to that local machine.
8. Then run the NETSETUP10 program from that directory to setup the proper environment on the client machine.

Items 5 thru 8 are covered in this article:

Hope this helps.
