Adding an asset account

I just came on board and have been asked to add two of our buildings to the assets that for some reason were not set up at the time they were built or at the time the system was setup.

So I am trying to create a new asset account but it is not letting me enter a beginning balance. If I can't enter a beginning balance, how do I get the value of the asset into the system?

You will have to enter all amounts with a transaction. To add an asset like this, you would debit your asset account and credit the equity account.
