Spreading out Income from Prepaid Pledges

Post by jacobb »

We'd like to show our prepaid pledges as income equally divided throughout the year so we don't spend it all at once. Can we do this by entering them into Contributions in a special fund called Prepaid Pledges and then setting up a recurring transaction that moves 1/12 of that amount into Pledged Income each month in Accounting? Or should we perhaps set up a Temporarily Restricted Account and then move it? If we do that, do we credit the Restricted Account each month and debit the income account?

I can't think of any easy way to automate the contributions over 12 months. Because once you set up something, it isn't long before it's 11 months and then you have to change everything again.

You don't really need to use a restriction, because it's an internal restriction, not a donor restriction.

If you deposit the money in your regular checking account, you may have trouble reconciling the account if you don't show it entering the checking account when it was given.

If you have a separate savings account, you could deposit money there and DB special savings asset account and CR General Contributions.

Every month, you could inspect the savings amount and transfer whatever amount you wanted into checking by CR special saving and DB checking.
