How to change fund balance beginning bal. in Chart of accts.

Post by bkkper1 »

Years ago, when our church first set up PowerChurch accounting, the BEGINNING BALANCE for the 300 Acct Fund Balance was entered incorrectly. Is there a way to change this entry and replace it with the correct figure, or is there a journal entry that can be made to do this?
I have asked our CPA, but not being that familiar with the program, he has not been able to suggest how to do it. And of course, it is making our Balance sheet appear incorrect. I would so much appreciate a solution to this. We use Power Church version 10 and have Windows XP, Thanks

Unless someone who is familiar with database manipulation chimes in, there are two options that I can think of.

One is to make a correction entry. If you can document what you did wrong several years ago, your CPA should be able to guide you as to what entry to make.

The other is to hit the reset accounting button and start over with the correct balance.

How to change beginning balance in Fund Accounting

Post by bkkper1 »

Thanks for the quick reply. If I hit the restart accounting button, I know it will delete my existing accounting information, so I would need, of course, to keep a back up copy of those previous years. Then I would have to re-setup the Accounting. I'm wondering, will it also delete all the Contributions data such as all the list of contributors and their names and addresses? Would I have to re-enter all their information all over again? That would be quite a job.

I just did a Reset Accounting at the beginning of 2009.

Reset Accounting affects MOSTLY Fund Accounting.

In Contributions, all the history of giving will remain intact, as will the list of envelope numbers and addresses, etc.

The List of Contribution Funds will be intact, but the Fund Accounting Account numbers will be gone.

In Accounts Payable, the list of Vendor Records will be intact. All the addresses will be there. The history of invoices and payments will be gone, as will the default Fund Accounting Accounts if you attached them to the vendor records.

In Payroll, the employee list will be intact. Social Security numbers and addresses, etc., but no payment history, or quarterly report information.

In Accounts Receivable, all the "customers" will be intact, but any payment history or invoice history is lost. We had to re-enter outstanding invoice amounts.

How to change Fund Bal. beginning balance

I think it's going to be best to do the reset. I just wanted to be sure I wouldn't have a complete setup of everything to do all over again. That answers my questions quite well. Thanks so much.
