Deleting Sample Accounts from the Chart of Accounts

Post by jalabuda »

We have some Sample Accounts that we do not want in our NEW chart of accounts? Can we delete them?

You can delete them if there is no activity in them. If there had been (long ago) you can DELETE OLD DATA up to a certain date and see if that deletes any legacy activity.
You can watch my PowerChurch tutorials now on YouTube!

You can also mark the accounts as inactive, even if there has been activity in the past. That way, they won't show up in the chart of accounts unless you choose to display the inactive accounts.

Sample Accounts

Thank you for your responses.

The issue is we are a Canadian Church and the Sample accounts are the Payroll accounts based in US deductions. The system will not let me delete these accounts. We have a diocese provide Payroll Services for us. Is there something in the setup that we can modify and Restore to delete these "sample payroll accounts"?

The sample payroll accounts are tied to the sample payroll items that are set up for you.

To delete the accounts, you must first delete the payroll items. To do this, go to Accounting > Payroll > Maintain Item Descriptions. Use the Delete button at the top of the form.

If you were planning to use the payroll functions later, you could simply change the accounts that are assigned to each item, thus "freeing up" the account dependencies.
