Cash Deposit / Investment Update
Several months ago we took $5,000 from a $15,000 cd. Without even thinking about it, I deposited the check as a contribution. Now I realize that the invesment portion of the balance sheet is wrong. How can I fix this so the "Investments" portion of the balance sheet is correct without messing up the checking account balance? I will greatly appreciate any help you can give me. I have no idea how to fix this, and I need to have it corrected before our next board meeting.

Re: Cash Deposit / Investment Update
It's not clear what you intended the $5000 to be for. If would you post the intended purpose, I may be able change my answer accordingly.
If you put it in as a contibution, then you did the following:
DB checking
CR income (I'm not sure if you put it in as general tithes or something else)
If you intended on transferring the money to checking for later use, and simply wanted to show it coming from the cd asset to checking, you should have done this:
DB checking
CR cd asset
Therefore, you may be able to correct the mistake by simply doing this:
DB income (whatever income account you used)
CR cd asset
If you want to straighten out the Contributions module, then ignore everything above, and you can enter the same envelope number, on the same date, and the same Contribution Fund, with a negative $5000.00, and post in Contributions and Fund Accounting, and start all over again.
To give you more direction, I will need to know what Contribution Fund you used, and what Fund Accounting accounts were affected.

Re: Cash Deposit / Investment Update
Thank you so much! I was able to enter the contribution as a negative and re-enter the transaction using the directions you gave.
