Chart of Accounts Entry for Honorariums

Post by Svenska »

I’m new to PowerChurch 10 and I’m in the midst of setting up the chart of accounts. Question is, how do users handle payment to non-staff personnel such as a supply minister or a supply musician? If treated as a vendor, isn’t the “cost of personnel” history lost? “Contract” employees has become so controlled by IRS I’m unsure what direction to go. Right now I’m considering setting up Supply Minister, Supply Organist, etc. under 6550 OTHER EXPENSES as 6552 HONORARIUMS. Appreciate any suggestions. :wall:

In New York State, the last time I looked, we can pay up to $600 per quarter to someone without having to report it as payroll. (Babysitters, one-time maintenance workers, and minor construction projects fit this category for us). This is the minimum threshold set by Social Security rules.

Legally, we are obligated to report anything more than that as payroll or issue them a 1099 statement.

You can expense those items provided they don't meet a minimum threshold amount for your State.

The $600 threshold for the issuance of a 1099 is annual not quarterly, and that is the process we use for our music director and treasurer. This same regulation applies to any contractors you have, such and landscaping and in our case snowremoval, that are not incorporated.
