How to manage additional witholding?

Post by UUTerry »

The Federal W4 form allows an employee to request that additional money be withheld from their paycheck.

Does PC 10.4 have a way of incorporating the additional withholding?

Thanks,

Terry

Create a new Payroll Item of Additional Withholding, type of DEDUCTION. Keep the tax table as NONE, and on the W2 tab, check the Fed Tax Withheld box.

Then add it to the employee, and enter the additional withholding as requested.

In version 11 you can enter this amount along with the number of exemptions claimed on the individuals W4 within the Federal Withholding Item Setup window for each employee. This eliminates the extra payroll item description and and line item on the payroll check stub.

Terry,
You will like the changes made to Payroll. It is a major change however, so be sure to spend a little upfront time reading the manual before you set up the payroll module. The payroll information does not directly convert from your older version. You need to make several selections to complete the process. Enjoy

Just to clarify that last point, there is a "Finish Payroll Conversion" assistant, that you need to go through, step by step to inform the program of how Payroll was set up in your previous version. In version 10 and prior, there are only income, deduction, and employer liability items. There is no way for the program to know which item is federal withholding, which is state tax withholding, etc. The conversion assistant takes you through each of the items and has you label each of them as to what type of item it actually is. Armed with this knowledge, the new Payroll module is able to do a lot more for you and is a lot easier to maintain on a day to day basis.
