Payroll-how to setup instrumentalists

Post by debbieg »

UGH!! After laboring all afternoon with the payroll setup, I thought I was ready to run one. But I've already hit a snag. :wall:
Our instrumentalists are paid one amount when they play for worship service and a different amount when they play for choir rehearsal. Typically, they only do one or the other. But, the first payroll that I am trying to process has an instrumentalist that did one of each.

I had set up these employees as hourly workers and put their amount for a single service as the hourly wage. But now I see that it won't work if they do 2 different kinds of playing (worship & rehearsal). Is the best way to set them up as salaried employees and just change the salary every time? There are hardly ever 2 payrolls in a row that are the same.
thanks,
Debbie

I'd set them up as salaried, if the amounts are fixed. That is, if say they always get $50 for rehearsals, and $75 for services, then as Salaried you can edit the amount you need to enter. Thus if they only do a service, you can enter $75, but if they did both you could enter $125.

We have a similar situation, only just on a monthly basis. It just depends on who is playing what Sundays.

It is possible to create a payroll item for the rehearsal and a seperate one for the worship with the "hourly" amount for each as you had done earlier. This way you don't have to do math all the time. Just enter the number of times they do each, and let the program do the math!
