Accounting Set-Up

Post by Jeanie »

I am new to this so bear with me. I have been using PC for years but not the accounting part. I have been given the task of setting it up and using it. I was progressing along fine and then while setting up the chart of accounts part, I hit the wrong button and exited it saying I was done which in fact I was not done with any of it. So the question is.... do I have to start over? enter all the info again? Pleae help. Thanks.

Jeanie, I feel your pain. I've been working on the same thing recently.
Did you take a backup at any point?

We have a hard drive back up but not sure how it works yet either. I am so new to this accounting stuff. I don't know why it would be fixed to not be able to go back for those of us who accidently hit wrong button due to interruptions, phone, etc. Or at least asked if we were sure before actually doing it. Oh, well, if not a fix, guess it's best I wasn't too awful far a long. I just wasn't done setting everything up. :wall:

Well, what you can do is print a Chart of Accounts out along with information about your starting balances, then use that information when you restart Accounting.

BTW, you can stop in the middle of what you're doing when you're setting up accounting. If you hit the Exit button, the system will ask if you want to save your work. Click YES than when you go back into Accounting Setup you'll start off where you left off.

However, if you reached the point where it offers you the FINISH button, then you had reached the end of the setup wizard. What did you need to add ??

That is what I had been doing is exit and save but this time I apparently hit the finish button which I thought was always there at the top left. What I was still doing was going through the chart of accounts and editing it to our liking. I also wanted to go over the other things to make sure they were right. I didn't hit the finish button on the top left. Something else that was by the exit one. I was trying to be really careful and do it right but apparently didn't.

You actually have much better tools to work with once you complete the accounting setup. The only issue is there is no "beginning balance" field on the account. You have to enter a transaction in Fund Accounting to adjust an account balance once you are finished with the setup.

If you just need to change account numbers, levels, or descriptions, add new accounts, etc. It is easier to do once you finish the setup assistant, in my opinion. I don't think it's necessary to start completely over. People used the software for almost 20 years without a Setup Accounting Assistant at all!

If you get stuck on something, post your issue here and someone will help you through it.

Thank you. I feel a little better. I have been using for years, just not the accounting part. Thanks again.
