Repeating items in Accounts payable

I am going through the first month of using the Accounts payable module up front to pay bills. I wanted to make sure I understood something correctly before proceeding too far. I have gone into Maintain Repeating items and added invoices for several of our vendors. Some of these bills will be identical every single month (ie. pastor annuity). However, there are others that we pay every month but the amount may not be the same. A good example is the phone bill. Do I add that one time as a repeating item and then when I release it for a future payment can I change some of the details like reference and amount in the open invoice? Or do I have to keep making changes to the repeating item every time before I do the release?

I just tried this and you can make the changes in the open invoice. I had never thought of using the repeating item that way but I may have to rethink that. I just have used it for invoices that do not have changing amounts in them.

Thanks Tom. Are you doing this on a test system? If so, can you see if after you change the info in the maintain open invoice for a new month, does the original repeating item stay the same or does it get updated with current month's info.
It seems like the trick here is to be really careful to change invoice #(reference),amount and due date each time you bring it up.

No information in the original repeating item changes with the exception of the next due date. This is just as it would be if you made no changes to invoice after it was released. Once the item has been released the repeating item setup does not care what you do the the invoice that was created by the release. It performs the same changes to the item, advancing the release date to the next schedules release date, that would be done with no changes.
