PAYROLL - Check Printing Error
I am reconciling my bank statement for the month of DECEMBER, 2010 and noticed that four (4) payroll check numbers were entered incorrectly. Instead of the 4-digit check numbers, they were recorded as 3-digit numbers. Instead of check# 8395, 8396, 8397, & 8398, the starting check number was keyed incorrectly so they are recorded as check# 835, 836, 837, & 838. What is the best course of action?

Well, since these transactions were already posted, I'm fairly sure the only way to fix this would be to reverse the original check's transactions, then re-enter using the correct check numbers. Then post the update and reversal transactions to Funds Accounting.RLM wrote:I am reconciling my bank statement for the month of DECEMBER, 2010 and noticed that four (4) payroll check numbers were entered incorrectly. The other alternative would be to view these transactions in the View Posted Transactions module, and enter an explanation for the discrepancy in the notes section of the individual check transactions.

Thank you Neil.... I suppose if I don't reverse the transactions, it will nag me relentlessly because I didn't. I could not see any other way to correct this, but had hoped that there was another way to remedy this. I will look at the alternative that you suggested and see if I could live with that.

Well, the program won't nag you anyway ...RLM wrote:Thank you Neil.... I suppose if I don't reverse the transactions, it will nag me relentlessly because I didn't.
