Setting up chart of accounts

Post by Gabriel »

I am new to PowerChurch, we currently have version 8.5 and I am trying to set up the church system. If we only have one checking account then I should be able to use the 1110 for all of my funds. Right?

If that is true, then when I set my expenses, I should be able to have for example 01-1110-500, 01-1110-501 etc.... When I do this it tells me that expenses are from 5000 on .... That I am out of range...

So how do I actually set them up, if I only have one checking account.

Thanks for any help provided

Gabriel:

Remember the coding of the chart of the accounts. The first two digits are the fund, the next four are the account number, and the last three the sub account. In your example you are confusing subaccounts with the four digit part of the account number.

Setting up chart of accounts

Thanks for the reply. I am confused all right. The church has one checking account which we utilize for payment of expenses etc.

If in fund 01 - I have 12 different expenses or things to pay such as gas, phone, light, water etc...

How do I set up the accounts so I can track the expenses?

if it fund 01, account 1110 (4 digits) to represent the checking ????, then will each sub account be the different "expenses"?

Or is it that each different expense is the 4 digits??

I am sorry to trouble you all with this but I am trying to get this right.

Thanks again

YOUR question I can answer -- there are a few others I need answers to!

Expenses start with 5000. So for example, you might want your utilities in one group. You might have UTILITIES as number 01-5000-00. THen under that you might have gas as 01-5010-00 and electricity would be 01-5020 and water as 01-5030-00. Or you might have UTILITIES starting at 5500 so then your accounts might be 01-5510-00; 01-5520-00 and 01-5530-00.

I am new to this as well and have installed v9. I had previously installed the demo of v9 and found out that I could really play around with the demo version rather than messing up my registered software. If you have the demo you might try that as well.

Good luck!
