I just became the church treasurer.
I have no accounting knowledge.
I had our PCP system upgraded from v.6.2 to v.11 just a few weeks ago hoping it would make this volunteer job easier, but I'm still quite in the dark.
If the only way to correspond is through this forum, I'm ok with that.

David,
You sound like where I was just a few years ago. Unfortunately, I was not in a position to take advantage of the online training PC+ offers, as Neil has recommended. I did my own "training" by reading through all of the pertinent forum postings -- learned a great deal, had a lot of potential problems resolved before they became problems, and found answers to most of my questions before I even got started. I still keep a close eye on the forums and continue to learn valuable tips and insights.
Thanks for the info.
I have no experience in accounting.
In the description of these classes, it assumes one has basic knowledge of accounting procedures.
So that leaves me out for sure.

LOL - The sum total of my "accounting" experience when I began this job consisted of managing household accounts for years. Double-entry what???
Fortunately, PC+ does a good job of making the basics fairly easy to grasp. Also fortunately, I work for a tiny little church so the demands are not above my skill level! I keep "crib sheets" handy - such as a list of which types of accounts increase/decrease with debit/credit. And, as I said, the PC+ forums are an on-going resource of incalculable value.
I'm confident you will be able to pick up what you need fairly quickly and easily.

Don't let that stop you ... as Eden states, if you've taken care of your bills and a checkbook, you can manage with Powerchurch. The training is very good, and even I who only used Quicken for my bills at home, picked it up.
