Inporting from Intuit?
Hello All, Is there a way that I can import my account information from Quickbook or Download from my bank website into PC? As it stands, only Contributons are posted in PC and the rest (receipts & deposits) are put in Quickbooks .... Why? Trying not to touble our heart but I think we may have. We just need to come out of the two systems and just go with PC. Any suggestions?

Pastor Harold:
Quickbooks is a "single entry" accounting system and PowerChurch is a "double entry" accounting system. Different animals, altogether, although, in the long run PowerChurch will probably serve your needs more precisely.
To begin using PowerChurch, you really only need to transfer your beginning balances and outstanding checks and deposits. You will not be able to transfer your history from QB to PC, unfortunately because of the single accounting vs double accounting thing.
There is help available. PowerChurch has courses. This forum is available. I have tutorials (see my signature, below), and everyone here is pretty willing to help in any way we can.

Re: Inporting from Intuit?
Thank you for your post. OK I'm learning to understand the double entry system. Wells Fargo have a double entry download option, will this work? if not no problem. However ... Since we have been adding and posting contributions, and have not closed any months or years since our start date July 4th 2010, we should be able to enter our deposits and invoices then reconcile and close 2010, 2011 Correct?

Yes, you can enter all of that information. Are you sure that is what you want to do?
If you have the information in Quickbooks, you can always use that to look up historic information. I don't know if your talking entering 100 transactions or 1000 transactions, so maybe it will not be a big deal. If you have an "average" amount of transactions, you are looking at a full time job for many weeks.
I would suggest starting PowerChurch new as of Jan 1 2012, and entering everything since then.
Let me know if you have any questions along the way.

The only reason I suggested entering the back transactions is because I have all the contributions entered back to 7/2012. wouldn't that show a unbalance funds some where? or where you saying creat a new church account and just start from Jan'12?JohnDMeyers wrote:Yes, you can enter all of that information. You'd have to run a Balance Sheet report and see what your checking account balance is. I can't tell from here what the best start date is, given that you have some transactions already made in 2012.

There should be two parts your Contribution transaction. One to the checking account and one to an income account.
The checking account balance is found by running a Balance Sheet report.
The income account balance is found by running an Income and Expense statement.
However, you have to make sure that you posted your Contributions to Fund Accounting, and you have to check to make sure you set up your contribution funds to affect the checking and the income.
