How to account for a "scrip" fundraiser like Manna

Post by mcdonaldunit »

Hello all. Our church runs a "scrip program" wherein our members purchase gift cards at face value from The Manna Group, but The Manna Group sells them to us at a discount.
We collect payment from our members and Manna charges us about 95% of the value of the cards plus a small service fee. Therefore we keep about 5% of the gift card revenues.
How would this be set up in Powerchurch? I have read the manual very carefully and think this is not a pass-thru account. Would it be a restricted account, though? We pull in thousands of dollars in payments but and collect just a tiny portion of that for ourselves. The payments our members make are not for us, they are almost entirely going to Manna, and thus are not to be shown on our member's statements.
At the current time we input them all using a false member name "Miscellaneous" to an income account named "manna" and cut monthly checks from a "manna" expense account, but it would be nice to have some meaningful reporting around these transactions.
Any advice would be very welcome.

Thank you so much! I will definitely use this solution - it is way more sophisticated than I could have come up with myself.
