Chart of accts-rearranging

Post by mikethekey »

Is there an easier way of rearranging the chart of accts without doing a full accountng restart? Is moving the individual accts and then deleting the only way of rearranging the existing database accts?

What you describe is kind-of the only way.

Moving, renumbering, deleting, etc.

In 2009 I completely redesigned my COA by doing an Accounting Restart. Then, in 2010, I wanted to correct a few mistakes, so I did it one more time.

I'm glad I did, but it is tedious.

Actually, you can renumber the accounts, and it will correct the system to reflect the new account number.

For example, if you have an expense account listed as 5811-000, and it really should be under 6219-000, you can change the account number under Maintain Chart of Accounts and the system will update all the files to reflect the corrected account number.

That said, if you need to do a MAJOR realignment, a restart is probably the easiest way.

Thank you for your responses---basically it confirms what I already knew---I was hoping against hope that there was a quicker easier way of rearranging the database.
