Reissuing a Voided Check

I wrote a check to our pastor in December, 2013 for a Roth IRA. When he purchased the IRA in April, 2014, the company said they would accept check but then due to miscommunication it was not accepted because of length of time since check written. IRA money was taken out of his personal account for this. I rewrote a check to him for the $2,000. I know I need to void previous check written last year but how should I post the new check? Is there anyway I can post it for 2013?

If you haven't closed the month you can still post the check to 2013. However, the check really should be posted to the month it was actually written in.
