I touched on this subject in another post about a month ago but I'm about to take the plunge and really do this and I wan to get it right.
As of now I am using the default chart of accounts and in my general fund I want to add a bit more detail to the salaries expense
As it stand right now it looks like this
1. EXSPESES 5000
2. GENERAL EXPENSES 5050
3. SALARIES 5100
4. Salaries 5110
I would like to track the salaries of individuals - Pastor & Muscian also
Would they be
5. Pastor 5110-101
5. Muscian 5110-102
or should it be set up another way?

Are you just starting out with the Chart of Accounts ?? If so, why not use the Accounting Wizard which will set up the personnel accounts for you with minimal fuss.CJ wrote:I touched on this subject in another post about a month ago but I'm about to take the plunge and really do this and I wan to get it right.

Could you or anyone else for that matter please give me some examples of the added benefits of upgrading.NeilZ wrote:Sorry ... but its a good reason to upgrade to version 9, along with the other added benefits.CJ wrote:sorry I forgot to mention I was using version 8
Do others here agree it is worth the upgrade?
I ask not only for my own personal knowledge but also beacuse I would have to convince the board that it would be worth the added cost to upgrade, considering we haven't even utilized full full capabilities of the version we have now.

One of the best features of version 9 is the ability to move accounts on your chart of accounts. In the older versions you have to wait until after you close the year to delete unneeded accounts. Now you can do it right away. Also, the fact that you can retain multiple years of Fund Accounting data is very useful too. The year end close process is much easier--no period 13 to worry about. You can have up to 12 months open in fund accounting--previously you could only have two--the current and prior month. And the accounting audit logs are great to see when people have done postings or changes to the system. I would definitely upgrade.
The membership module has been updated, with a wizard that allows a volunteer to enter all the data, both family and personal, from one location, at one time.
Better reports, improved contribution handling with a check reader (actually added in 8.5), better security capability .. I could go on and on, but here is the full list:

Since you're just starting to use the full capabilites of PC+, now is the time to do the upgrade at a VERY good price !!
One thing alone, it will save you HOURS of setting up the COA, since it now has the COA wizard.
