Withheld too little Social Security

Post by heatherp »

We hired a non-clergy staff member in December of 2014. I didn't realize until working on tax payments and W2s in January that the position was still set up for clergy. No social security taxes or medicare were withheld from her December checks. I was able to create manual negative checks so that her social security and medicare taxes were correct on her W2, and she wrote me a check for the amount she owed.

How do I enter her repayment check into Powerchurch? My social security and medicare accounts are currently showing that they are balanced for that period due to my manual payroll check.

I have the manual payroll check that I created for social security and medicare showing as a credit in my unreconciled items.

I would enter that as a manual deposit through a Funds Accounting transaction. Since you probably used the Employer Social Security/Medicare expense account to fund the original check, you need to replace that money to that expense account.
