Pledges on Reports

Post by fpchurch »

Hi
Our Treasurer ran a couple of reports to compare and has a question that I don't know the answer to, maybe someone here does.
He thinks the "Total Received" on the Pledged to Actual Comparison Report should be the same as the "Pledge Paid Current Year" Year to Date amount on the Income and Expense Statement, which seems logical to me. But they are not the same there is a difference of around $8,000. Any ideas why?
Thank you!

Could be a number of reasons: Contributions not yet posted, Contributions paid against this pledge in the previous year, contributions for some reason not assigned against a pledge, pledges are totaled from many Contribution Funds not just one.

Not sure how your Funds Accounting is setup, as many churches just assign their Sunday Contributions to the operating fund (for example) as Tithes and Offerings and do not assign pledged amounts to a separate income account as it all goes against operating income.

Also, which is showing the higher total Funds Accounting or Contributions?

Income and Expense Report is higher. Thank you for the suggestion I did find some contributions not assigned to a pledge and that did make a change in the amount. I also found some donations that were intended for Plate Collection assigned to the Pledge Fund that needs to be corrected.
The assignment to Income is very detailed with pledges, plate, offerings for holidays, etc. all tracked separately. It was set up years ago, we are trying to clean it up but it is a very slow process.

I'd start in 2016 by reassigning all operating income Contribution Funds to the one Funds Accounting operating income account of 'Tithes & Offerings. I would except specific donations to 'pass through collection's and so on.

Otherwise its all comparing apples & oranges, as the money could be going anywhere in the maze of FA income accounts.
