Setting up Chart of Accounts in new software

Post by PattiD »

We just bought 11.55 and will start using it in the new year. It is not possible to totally set up the Accounting module before all the year end entries are made for 2015 in our old software, but is it possible now to go as far as setting up the chart of accounts in the new PowerChurch so that is done and out of the way?

Thanks for your help!

Are you converting to Powerchurch from another software package ?? In that case, sure no problem. Even if you're going to be have any membership data converted by the Powerchurch people, you can first do a backup of Accounting, install the backup file they send, then restore that accounting backup without a problem.

We have been using PowerChurch 11.0 but are totally updating our chart of accounts, our membership (we are a parachurch and who is currently donating is much different than when it was set up), vendors, etc. so I will not be transferring anything but starting totally fresh.

My suggestion, install 11.55 now and allow the system to UPDATE the entire database. This way Membership and the rest of the systems can be switched over now. When you post Contributions for the rest of the month, select the Print Accounting Report option and manually create the deposit transactions in v11.1.

In the meantime, after the v11.55 conversion go to File -> Preferences the Funds Accounting tab. Then click on the RESTART ACCOUNTING button, and restart Accounting. It will reset Accounting (but not Contributions) so you can safely change your Chart of Accounts, then in January, you can adjust the Contribution Funds to point to any new income accounts you may have created.
