I am trying to put in our credit card payment and I have a credit of 162.00.
I put all the expenses in and put a credit of 162.00 to our youth expense account but it's keeps telling my credit and debits are out of balance.
I have put our credit card expenses on a spreadsheet and everything is in balance. Is there a certain to put in a credit in?
I have credited our bank account for the check amount and then credit the 162.00 to the youth account and then debited the rest of the expenses. Thanks for any advice.

I'm assuming you're talking about setting up an invoice in Accounts Payable.sweettea wrote:I am trying to put in our credit card payment and I have a credit of 162.00.

The error you're seeing is actually a 'warning' telling you that the CHECK amount is different from the credits/debits listed. You should be able to save the check by just clicking on the YES button. The program will warn you about something, but its going to assume that if you acknowledge the warning, and select YES, that you know what you're doing and you want to continue.
I'm assuming that you have a statement with a balance of $200.00, however on that there was a credit or return of $162. So on the invoice, you have expenses (debits) of $362. You also have a credit on the checking account of $200.00 (which is actually what the statement shows as being owed). You then added another CREDIT to the CE expense account of $162 to reflect the return, and showing that the funds are back in their budget.
The system will see that the total credits is $362, the total debits is $362, but you're only writing the check for $200. It thinks, is this right?? Is the person making a mistake?? So it issues the warning.
Does this help ?
