Setting Up Separate Funds

Post by laanra »

When more than one fund is set up can the same account numbers be used again with different labels? For instance, the 01 General Fund uses 6205 for Children's Bible School, level 4 detail. In a fund 02 for Missions can you use 6205 for a particular mission support, say, Impact Ministries, as a level 4 detail? I hope this makes sense. Thanks for any help :)

Doing what you are proposing takes away from some of the uses of PowerChurch. By having the 6205 account the same in all funds, you can see the totals when you combine all funds. I also think really simplies the Chart of Accounts when because you know what that number is for regardless of the fund. At some level in your church, I would think someone would want to see all funds of the church in total.

Randy is right about why you would not want to do this. Prior to version 9 you could do what you are asking, but with version 9 this is no longer possible to do.

When this was allowed it was a source of confusion for many users. In the example you gave when you ran a consolidated income & expense for funds 01 & 02 the totals from the Children's Bible School account would add together with the Impact Ministries account and give you one total. We wanted to address this confusion in verison 9 and because of this it is no longer possible to define the accounts like you requested.

In addition there are new reports in version 9 that will display the I&E and balance sheet reports in a grid, with separate columns for each fund. This was a fairly popular request. If we allowed what you are requesting that report would be impossible.
