We have had a 403b retirement option for several years that our ministers have been contributing to without an employer match. Our elders recently decided to add employer matching and made it retroactive to the start of our fiscal year, April 1. Unfortunately, when I entered the initial employer match in payroll for one of the ministers, I had figured the amount on the wrong percentage and put in $19.84 too much. I just realized this error and want to make sure I fix it correctly so there are no problems with the IRS. Can I just subtract that overage out of the next payroll check I write to him or is there another way I should go about this correction?
Thanks in advance for your help!
