How is the best way to record/show deferred or prepaid pledges? Every year we have contributors who give their 2017 pledge in 2016. They receive giving credit in the year the gift is given (2016) but we don't want to show it as income until 2017. How do others handle this?

This is covered in the Maintain Pledge function.

Go to Contributions -> Pledges -> Maintain Pledges from the menu. Locate the pledge record for the person who prepaid on their pledge. Find the pledge in question and double click on it to edit. In the Pledge Start Balance enter the amount prepaid in 2016. Then click save.

The Contributions Statement's pledge area will reflect the amount paid on the pledge.

Neil, fyi - I'm just entering a pledge for 2019 that the person already paid and the help screens and user manual do NOT say to enter a starting balance. I did anyway because that's what you said to do. When I ran a pledge report it shows up correctly, so this needs to be addressed in a maintenance release. Can you pass that along for comments? Thanks.

Actually, it is in the manual, on page 161, Prepaid Pledges. The method I listed was one that I've been using since version 9, and was needed at the time. Its a habit more than anything now. However, the method as listed in the manual is now the preferred method.
