Check Numbers wrong in reconciliation
Found an interesting problem when reconciling my checking account. We recently had our check numbers go to 10000 and when I tried to reconcile sorting by number all the 10000 series checks appeared ahead of the 9000 series. The key in the sort is obviously the first number not the actual number. Found that sorting by date sequence resolved this problem, and in fact may be a better way to sort for my purposes. Don't know if this can be fixed for future MR's but it would be nice to have it resolved.

I believe that the check number field is not a numeric field .. you can use letters and numbers in it, so the sort in that field will follow a text sort, much as the sort on a directory in windows will sort file names in the same way.tborgal wrote:Found an interesting problem when reconciling my checking account. OK that explains it. This has in fact been a blessing since I have always had a problem reconciling the deposit side anyway. I have deposits listed as contributions and deposits and when listing by check number field the contributions are listed ahead of the deposits and the dates entered are ignored. By listing by date entered they are listed in the order entered. This is a giant DAH!!! on my part. Saves me from jumping around the statement looking for deposits and the checks are in numeric order just as before.
