Returned check

Post by Justine Loker »

What is the best way to handle a returned check. We have had a couple of contribution checks not clear. They have already been posted to the family on their contributions. Do we put a negative contribution in on their envelope number? Would I then debit checking and credit tithes and offering?

If you post directly from contributions to funds accounting, here's what you need to do:

Have your contributions or financial secretary:

1. Find the dates these checks were entered into contributions.
2. Open the Enter Contributions function.
3. Enter the date of the original entry, then enter the families envelope number, and the fund it was originally entered against.
4. Then enter a NEGATIVE number equal to the original entry, and save the entry.

Do this for all such returned checks.

5. Then post all these entries to Funds Accounting. The proper entries should already be made for you in Funds Accounting.

Then the Treasurer would be able to post in Funds Accounting and it will adjust the system.

Hope this helps.
