In the UM Church we have funds that we are supposed to pay called Mission & Ministry funds (M&Ms). We put these monies in our budget when setting the budget. Some people give their offering to the M&Ms and we have an investment where we use the interest to pay the M&Ms.
When I started using PC last January I had funds carried over from 2004 restricted for M&Ms. So I set up the TR and release accts. It worked fine. Then came several months of no monies given to M&Ms. In December we received the interest check and I forgot to put it in the TR account. When I ran a year end balance sheet I had that money sitting there as a liability but didn't want it there -- I had paid it out.
I have some pass through accounts set up for various special offerings so I did an adjusting entry to move it from the liability account to the special offerings account. Well it still sat because I realized I can't pay it out of the pass through account -- it has to come out of the expenses since it is budgeted.
So now I have it sitting in my special offerings and i am hesitant to do anything else until I know what is the right thing. I have expensed it so that is okay -- i just need to figure out what to do to get it out of my liabilities.
I have a couple other issues that have affected this. First off, I tried to set up other TR and release accts following the book to the letter. However, when I went to use the funds in the TR acct. the only release acct it would give me was the very first M&M one. I finally gave up and made pass through accounts for the various things I was wanting to TR. I think that is why I didn't put the M&M money to the TR acct -- too much time since I last used it and the non-M&M were funky making me suspicious to use it period.
I also can't tell you where the money was originally put to (the liability acct). I made a CD backup at the church, restored it to my home computer and did a bunch of book work. My girls got jump drives for Christmas so I borrowed one and backed up from my computer onto the jump drive (no errors) and then restored on the church computer form the jump drive (again, no errors). HOWEVER, when I go to look at my posted transactions there are absolutely NO transactions. There are a couple unposted transactions that I have entered here at the chruch but what in the world happened to my posted transactions? I always backup and restore ALL FILES. I haven't had a chance to check at home and I plan to do another back up using a CD. Is this an issue with jump drives?
Thanks for your help!!!
