Account Numbers and Sub Account Numbers

Can anyone explain to me why accounts are identified by the four digit and three digit numbers? For instance, under salaries - couldn't the senior pastor's salary, housing, retirement, health insurance and bonus all be 5061 with different 3 digit numbers? Thanks!

Hi...
I did just that when I set the chart of account up...for instance...you could use 5061-001 as salary; 5061-002 as housing; and so on).
That also makes it easy for which goes where when it comes time for W-2's.

Works well too.
