We have several people at the church that are getting paid but are full-time employees for other employers. I was previousy told during the course of the year that they do not want to be considered as employees but contract employees and to be given 1099's except for the Pastor he is to recive a W-2.
At the beginning of the year I setup all of their information in the payroll module. Now that I have the information to print on a w-2 they want 1099's. Is there anyway I can get the W-2 information to print on a 1099 in the correct line items w/o having to reenter a year's worth of information in anothe module in order to print 1099's for these contract employees. This is the first year they will be given 1099's. Thanks for any info that anyone has to share.

W-2's and 1099's
Hi! I just wanted to send you a word of caution. A person can not choose whether they want to be an employee or independent contrator. There are rules established by the IRS that the employer needs to follow to determine what category they fall under. (See IRS Pub. 15-A to start.)
All employees must have payroll taxes and social security taxes taken from their payroll checks and they will need to receive a W-2. Please keep in mind that there are different guidelines for ministers and you will need to check into them also (they do receive a W-2 and are considered employees, but their tax guidelines are different).
You do not take payroll taxes or social security taxes out of an Independent Contractor's check. This is a very important fact for them to know. Independent Contractors have to pay the full 15.3% amount of their own social security taxes.
I am not a CPA, so please check into all of this for yourself. Hope this helps a little!

I would encourage you to look into everything tenalea said in the previous post. I am not a CPA either, but everything there corresponds to my knowledge as well.
