new setup chart of accounts

Post by maviszook »

My new chart of accounts is filled with unwanted default accounts: pastor, associate pastor, music minister various expenses, benefits, etc. We don't have these expenses, (but we hope to in some far future) and they are totally filling up my viewing space of our chart of accounts.

I was not happy that I was not given any choice about including these. Is it possible to remove them, or is it not advised?

I newly installed power church plus v.9

The COA setup when you first install Powerchurch is a suggested COA based on the needs of most churches. You can add and remove any of these at this time, however, if you enter a starting balance (I believe anything greater than zero), you can't delete them.

So ... now's the time to setup the COA the way you want it, delete to your hearts content.

How?

Post by therevmom »

NeilZ, how do you delete? How do you go about moving the order?

I've not yet finished the set up. But in the final screen it says I have th option of moving accounts up or down in the lists on each tab. However, they will not move for me. Nor can I edit them.

I need to remove some stuff and add other stuff within the chart of accounts.

Any help out there?

Still not there

Post by therevmom »

Okay, So now I'm stuck again. I have not yet clicked on "Complete the Accounting Set up."

I need to go back and reassign a couple of accounts from temp restricted to unrestricted. One item on there is a deposit on the parsonage that needs to be out of income all together and in a liability account. How do I go back and make these changes? Or, do I have to complete the set up and then edit the COA?

does anyone ever respond to these? This is my 4th (?) post and no responses to anything yet.

FWIW ... I really can't help you with the accounting stuff. I'm the system admin at my current (and at my last church), and I can assist with some of the settings and stuff like that. As far as answering here on the forum, the staff drops in when they can, but alot of the advice is from users of PC+. If you're looking for instant support, I do suggest you give the PC+ support line a call. However, depending on if you've used them before, you may have to pay for the support there.

However, one of the users, is a authorized PC+ instructor who is usually on the road, however when he can, he answers alot of the accounting questions.

I have found that a good approach is to organize what you want your chart of accounts and accounting funds to look like prior to beginning the Accounting Setup Assistant. I have also found that if you get into the Accounting Setup Assistant and discover that you need to make a large number of changes to the default chart of accounts that it's less complicated to only load the balances and outstanding items for your checking accounts using the Assistant and then complete the setup. Once you have completed the setup you can delete the accounts that you don't need and add the ones you need. Then do accounting adjustments to load the beginning balances to these accounts.
