Entering a donated vehicle
How do I enter a vehicle that was donated to our church? We are going to use it for our food pantry, not re-sell it.

PC+ is only used for cash (check, cash, credit card, ACH, etc.) donations. Non-cash donations can be acknowledged via a letter indicating date of donation, description of donation, etc.. but NOT the value of the donation. Templates for this can be found online. If the donation has a value of $500 or more, you will need to use IRS forms 8282 and 8283. See this link for further information on these forms:

Also, if the value will be greater than $5000, you will need to get an appraisal from a qualified appraiser.

Between these 2 links, you should be able to get the information you need.

As was mentioned, Powerchurch really isn't a good place to add such donations. The instructions listed in that post gives you all the necessary info needed.Turning Point wrote: ↑Fri Apr 19, 2024 11:27 amHow do I enter a vehicle that was donated to our church? However, if you want to track the vehicle as an asset, that's a different question.

I see I did ask the wrong question. We do want to track it as an asset.

First, you need to get a good valuation. That said unless you really want to be able to track it with depreciation, adding it as an asset is really not necessary for a church, because you can't use the depreciation unless there is some sort of state tax that the church falls under.
That said, this thread should assist:
