Entering contribution check #

The length of the Check Number field is too short for online bank checks. I have at least one contributor who sends online bank checks which have a check number that is eight (8) digits. The current field is only six (6) digits. My current solution is to drop the first two (2) numbers. Is there a possibility that this field could be expanded? Or, does anyone have a better solution than I am using?

I'm doing the same as you -- dropping the first 2 digits -- but I'd sure like to be able to enter the entire check number!

I asked the same question in the contributions forum about 2 weeks ago with a lot of views and no responses as yet. can this be added to the wish list for the next version. I realize this would be hard to do without a major change in the database, so I think a maint. release change would be unlikely.
