End of year transaction - strange number

One of our restricted funds had $6500 in itat the beginning of the year, 2024, and we received a bequest to add $20000 to it during the year.. The end of year balance sheet should read $26,500, however it states $23,748.98. If i run an activity report on the sub-category (137) none of these show that odd amount, only the $20,000 addition.

Where do I look to find why the ending value is so odd?

Is this donor restricted fund capable of being used to fund purchases during the year? There have been no other transactions on that fund? What do other end-of-month Balance Sheets show? I'd run the Balance Sheet by Month report to get an idea of what the balance was during the year.

it is a donor restricted fund. $15,000 was moved to our endowment then mved back. Release was used. The issue happened in december as novembers balance sheet was correct. It appears it is connected by the system generated end of year tranaction. I don't know what the "system" does at year end. None of my transactions in December caused this as far as I can tell.

What does the system do?
