Chart of Accounts

Post by springmeadowfwc »

I am cleaning up the Chart of Accounts and want to eliminate ones that are no longer needed. I can move them around in the same fund but how do I remove or transfer them out of the active fund?? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Unfortunately, you aren't able to delete accounts that have balances or transactions history. Also, you can not move an account to a different fund.

The solution to a problem such as this is to either mark an account inactive, which will keep it from being posted to and remove it from most reports, or you can move an account "into" an existing account, merging the two together.

If you were to add a new account called "Miscellaneous Income" or "Prior Year Income", you could then move all of your old / unused accounts together. The account history, balances, and budgets would all be moved / combined into the one account.

Thank you for your reply. What I did in the meantime was to create a "obsolete" category withing the fund for both income and expense and moved the obsolete accounts to them. I'll digest your reply and will probably be making some more changes per your info.

Again, thanks and have a Happy New Year!!
